Central Nanaimo is just that – central. The general borders of the Central Nanaimo neighbourhood, as recognized by the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board, are Northfield Road in the South, Bowen Rd to the end of Bowen Park in the South, Island Highway in the East and the Parkway in the West.

The area is divided up between older single-family homes and newer condos and townhouses along with a large commercial area along Bowen Road.  The single-family homes are generally older and there are many small homes around the hospital that are ideal for first time buyer’s, investors or singles & couples. Lot sizes are varied including higher density and larger, older properties with established landscaping. The condo and townhouse complexes are located close to the hospital and are primarily situated either on Meredith Road or along Dufferin Crescent.  Some of these areas would be considered walkable to shopping, recreation and are on or close to public transit.

Central Nanaimo is central to just about everything including the Nanaimo Regional Hospital, lovely Bowen Park & the Bowen Seniors Centre and Beban Park.  The Beban Park area includes an arena, indoor swimming pool, social centre, soccer fields, playground, tennis and pickleball courts, basketball hoops, equestrian centre, bike parks, community gardens, fitness circuit, dog off-leash area, golf course and driving range, two artificial turf fields & a BMX track

Bowen Park is a lovely wooded park situated near the Millstone River. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool in the summer, sports fields, curling club, outdoor lacrosse box, disc golf, tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball courts, two playgrounds, lawn bowling green and an outdoor amphitheatre available for weddings and other occasions.  If you like nature trails Bowen Park has some great ones some of which take you along the Millstone River.
